Thinking About it only makes it worse - David Mitchell

Image
He's a great writer and I enjoyed his insights. Obviously it's a lot of his newspaper columns which he's taken some effort to group together. Can't decide whether he should've bothered. It is what it is. Unbelievably have to agree with the Express on this one. http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/books/533032/David-Mitchell-Thinking-About-It-Only-Makes-It-Worse

An utterly exasperated history of modern Britain: John O Farrell

I listened to this audio book and enjoyed it so much I bought it for my husband. Interesting overview of stuff I vaguely remembered hearing about but had only as much knowledge of as you get from the 6 o'clock BBC news in the 70s. (I'm not saying it's that bad!) Recommended to all 48 year olds or wannabe 48 year olds one day.

The Crusades - Antony Bridges

Image
Just what I needed - a really clear story of the crusades. Not bothered with arguing or acknowledging alernative interpretations. Just facts. (Any history teachers: please note I am BEING IRONIC). Loads of Tancreds, Conrads and Baldwins which have all merged and I do feel I need to read it again. You could really see the coalescence of distance - you could see the incoherence of the whole thing and really see it as getting a bit of extra land and living there. I might read another book on the fourth crusade.
